IMPORTANT - Rehearsal/Show Expectations

As we enter into the final week of rehearsals, just a note about expectations as our children wait in the classrooms between scene appearances…  We are blessed that the teachers allow us to use their classrooms during rehearsals and the show; it’s important that our musical participants respect the classrooms we use and leave them in the condition that we found them in.

Please review these expectations with your child(ren).  Our wranglers will be ensuring that these expectations are met.

Noise

While in the classrooms, children are allowed to socialize and play quietly.  It’s important to keep the volume down even in classrooms with closed doors.  Adults will be coming and going to collect children for their stage appearance.  The children need to be able to hear when they are called.  In addition, noise carries really well through empty hallways and can be heard in the gym so low volume is key.

In order to hear directions for getting to/from the stage, and out of respect for the audience and those on stage, silence should be maintained in the hallways and the wings of the stage.

Food/Drink

Please be sure your children are well fed prior to coming to rehearsal or the show.  No food or drink (except water) will be allowed once the children are in costume.

Food/Gum is NOT allowed in the classrooms at any time during rehearsals or the show.  Children may bring in water bottles, but no other type of drink is allowed for the protection of costumes.

Entertainment

We are allowed to sit at the desks/tables in the classrooms or on the carpeted areas.  Some games/crayons/markers/paper will be provided to each of the Who/Soldier rooms for the kids to use – they should only use items brought into the classroom.  Children are not allowed to play with anything belonging to the classrooms.  Many items in the classrooms belong to other children or the teacher or are expensive schools supplies that should not be used by musical participants. This includes (but is not limited to):

  •  Teacher’s desks
  •  Smart boards
  •  Blackboards/chalk/erasers
  •  Inside children’s desks
  •  Paper/crayons/markers/scissors/glue/pencils that belong to the classroom
  •  Rockers/gliders or other personal items/furniture teachers have brought in
  •  Any classroom materials that are in view and accessible
  •  Any items in cabinets or bookshelves
  •  Classroom games/toys

If your child would like to bring in something non-electronic to help pass the time, we encourage it.  We ask that older children please leave cell phones at home.  We do not want them interfering with the sound equipment.

Appropriate Costume Etiquette

It is very important as we enter into dress rehearsals that children are careful with their costumes!  Children are allowed to play (quietly) in their holding classrooms, however while in costume they should not be crawling/sitting on the floor or playing in any way that might damage/stain or otherwise compromise their costume.  We do not want to discourage play or hanging out with friends in a group on the floor – but we do want all our stars to look their best on stage!!

Dismissal

At the end of rehearsal or the show, all children in a classroom will be expected to help put the room back in order before they are dismissed.  This may include putting chairs back on desks, desks lined up in order again, games/trash picked up off the floor and all belongings claimed.

Props - Wickersham Brothers

The Wickersham Brothers are in need of a silly weapon for the holding Horton hostage scene.  If you can send in a broom/duster/kitchen tool or some other sort of silly weapon for them to wield either today or tomorrow...

Any questions - contact stritter2000@live.com.

Props - Whos & Soldiers

We are still missing presents & silly weapons!!

If you have not yet sent in a small wrapped present (Whos) or a silly weapon (Soldiers), please do so on Monday (tomorrow - 4/7).  We don't want to send children on stage without their props!
Questions regarding props should be directed to stritter2000@live.com

If anyone has one we can borrow for the show, please contact Cindy Howie at cdhowie689@sbcglobal.net.
Also - if you have not sent in all the items necessary for your child's costume (e.g. shoes, pants, etc), please do so now.  We are taking inventory to make sure we're ready for dress rehearsals next week.
